The film "2001: A Space Odyssey" is indisputably one of the great classics of film and film music history. In 1968, Stanley Kubrick's work was an absolute novelty and it is still an entertaining and compelling document of the Zeitgeist back then. In January 2013 BIG cinema accompanied a sensational Germany premiere! The science fiction miracle was staged in Hannover and Cologne for the first time as a film concert with a live orchestra. The success of the first two performances resulted in a continuation of the film concert series. In cooperation with the European Film Philharmonic Institute, we prepare the performances technically and realize them down to the smallest detail in the respective concert halls. The brilliant projection technology from Christie, which projects a gigantic and sharp image onto the respective screens, is used.

In Hanover, Strobel and the NDR Radio Philharmonic Orchestra took over the role that originally belonged to Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. (...) Ligeti’s fragile meshwork of sounds is almost never as beautiful as in the absence of gravity.
